Friends of Animals

Postby J.Pete » Tue May 18, 2010 11:50 pm

I saw a post here about Friends of Animals but now I can't find it. Anyway, sorry for posting here. There is a lawsuit in the works against this organization in CT and I am trying to gather contacts who will help with the case. If anyone here knows about this organization, knows the director Priscilla Feral or Lee Hall, then I need to speak with you. You can choose to be anonymous or give our reporter and lawyers your name. We have formed a group that is dissecting the organization and all information is welcomed.

I know that my views and Friends of Animals' are similar in many ways:

they criticized all major organizations for signing Peter Singer's letter to Whole Foods thanking the store chain for their humane animal standards. At that time even Whole Foods' site had a note that those "humane" standards had not been met yet by their suppliers. I think it was mentioned in one of the posts on Abolitionist Approach blog about the standards.

I know that Lee Hall wrote several very articulate essays about California Proposition 2, which was called "Californian's for Humane Farms". The essays were in strong opposition to Prop 2.

I know that FofA criticizes Peta for Peta's sometimes racist or sexist ads. I agree that those ads can be harmful for animal rights ideas since they offend people whom we need to attract on our side.
I know that Peta sued several times Friends of Animals.

I know that FofA involvement into pet overpopulation issue consists of providing free and low cost spay/neuter clinics.

I know that FofA don't support improvement of conditions they never promote "humane products", they only stand for veganism. They published 2 beautiful cook books.

I was a supporter of Peta till 2007, when Peta turned out to be part of massive promotion of Prop 2 in California. During that campaign people of California were told horrible things about factory farming and were asked to vote for "humane" farms. After passing of that proposition many people believe that farm animals in California are now happy animals. I don't think so.
Since 2007 I am a supporter of Friends of Animals.

These things I know about Friends of Animals. If it helps

I am not a supporter of Friends of Animals and I don't get into these types of politics normally but ... here we are.

A woman filed a lawsuit against them last year. Priscilla Feral fired her because she complained about Primarily Primates. The case has now consolidated into a federal suit and is rapidly going forward. It seems that FOA had been misusing donor funds and still is. All she did was ask why they were doing it and she got fired. Later Feral went to the press and said the woman was let go because of her disability.

Now the law firm is looking for people to submit comments -- with or without your name -- to show the court. These will be based of Priscilla Feral's character and how she treated her employees. I've spoken to MANY people who have had a lot to say to say about her and FOA, but I wanted to hear from everyone else too.

The case will cover FOA's finances too and determine whether or not Primarily Primates should go new handlers. That is the second part, I'm told, that will be brought up.

Here is a link if you want to see some of what's going on. http://www.acorn-online.com/joomla15/in ... dated.html

When the woman whistleblowed, she was fired and then they quickly hired Anai Rhoads to show the public that they "care" for those with disabilities. Not sure if A. Rhoads will join the suit but I'm told it's likely that she is considering her options too. She left FOA in April over Primarily Primates problems too.

A friend of mine sent me this link. Friends Of Animals is being sued by a former employee who claims she was being fired for not shutting her mouth about the FOA debacle in regards to the neglect at the FOA primate sanctuary.

Some high up in the FOA used to live in my area years ago. I heard SECOND HAND that he was fired from the FOA because he talked his conscience in a meeting regarding the primates whose care was being neglected by the FOA. FWIW

Well, Priscilla Feral joined this forum, maybe she can shed some light on the situation (if she wants to).
