This is the evolution (or devolution) of Miyun Park. It shows exactly how industry is co-opting our movement, as Park went from grassroots abolitionist to corporate reformist to industry insider.
Miyun Park was a former president and co-director of Compassion Over Killing (COK).
In 2002, in COK's The Abolitionist magazine (now called Compassionate Action), Park stated "please keep in mind that animals cannot liberate themselves. The only hope they've got is that enough caring people will do everything in their power to finally free them from the enslavement they've been forced to endure for far too long."
In February 2005, Park left COK to work for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) as VP of Farm Animal Welfare.
This year (2009), Park left HSUS and now is Executive Director of Global Animal Partnership, which is the current form of the "Animal Compassion Foundation" created by Whole Foods Market.
One nonprofit corporation that links large reformist groups with industry is Farm Forward. Whole Foods Market CEO John Mackey is the Chairman; members also include Park, author Jonathan Safran Foer, PETA's Bruce Friedrich, philosopher and "animal science" professor Bernie Rollin, bird enslaver Frank Reese, and others.
