Whaling ban is going to be lifted!

Postby ArthurCake » Wed Jun 23, 2010 10:57 am

well it doesn't look like i can get access to the rest of the forum at the moment, so i'll just post my concerns here. As you may know a ban against whaling has been in place for the past 24 years, however, on the 21st June Agadir, Morocco the International Whaling Commission (IWC) will begin the process of voting on whether to lift the ban and potentially open the floodgates to whaling across the globe once again.

Please can you all have a look at this video we've developed with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation society to raise awareness of this issue; http://bit.ly/helpWDCS.

Please help! Show your support by spreading the word and supporting the cause. The petition is here http://www.whales.org

Hi ArthurCake, you must have missed the instructions about posting:

Introduce Yourself
You need to introduce yourself here before you get access to the boards.

and on that page, it says:

Please read the Intro Questionnaire before you start posting.

There are some questions you need to answer before gaining access. ;)

Regarding whaling: I was happy to see the following in the BBC article:

No-one is suggesting that whales and dolphins be granted a right to vote, to hold a driver's licence, or to receive a free and fair education.
But in this short half-year we have had enough examples posed to evoke a deep and thoughtful global conversation about our collective moral compasses.
Perhaps it is time for us to decide that we believe whales and dolphins do have a right to their lives, their liberty and the protection of their home and family.

But I'm troubled by the fact that there is no mention, anywhere on the site, of the animals that make up the vast majority of those who are exploited so egregiously. As a vegan, you know the score. If you start with just the animals who have a lot of support, when and how will you ever get to all of those chickens and fishes?

Just something to think about and discuss! ;)
